How to get a fishing rod and catch fish in Songs of Glimmerwick
Buy a fishing rod from the merchant south of town, beyond the guarding bush, then equip it and click near visible fish or bubbles. A player identifies the shop as Mel’s Shell; an October 1 shop guide lists the rod at 200 Gold Petals. On keyboard and mouse, click again when the exclamation mark appears, then follow the fishing timing prompt. The fishing tool is the rod, rather than playing a flute melody at the water.

Find the rod after opening the southern route
- Go to the path south of Wisk and check whether the guarding bush still blocks it.
- Once that route is open, continue to the southern merchant identified as Mel’s Shell in the player reply.
- Buy the fishing rod and equip it before approaching the water.
One player describes reaching this shop in the second week of Spring. That is their progress point, not a fixed calendar unlock for every save. If the bush remains in place, this guide starts too late for your current objective: finish its access quest first. The cited fishing replies do not give the full potion-making solution for that quest.
Cast, respond to the bite and finish the prompt
- With the rod equipped, stand by an ocean or pond fishing spot.
- Move the mouse toward an underwater fish or the nearby bubbles and left-click to cast.
- Watch for the exclamation mark, then click again to respond.
- Follow the timing minigame. A player describes pressing at the right moment, rather than choosing flute notes.
Keep the casting step separate from the bite and the timing result. Clicking empty water without the target feedback is not evidence that you have started a successful fishing attempt.
If a controller never shows the target circle
A release-week player reports this controller failure and says keyboard and mouse worked for them. If those inputs are available, compare the same fishing spot with the mouse sequence above. This is an attributed workaround, not a confirmed patch or a universal controller repair. Record the installed version, layout and whether the targeting circle or bite prompt is missing. Do not assume Song Mastery Help also modifies fishing: the reviewed discussion does not establish that.
