Getting started

Can you play Songs of Glimmerwick with only a mouse?

The short answer

Do not assume the whole demo is playable with only a mouse. Eastshade says the avatar can walk to an object when you interact with it, but some situations may still require WASD. The developer also says keys are remappable and controllers are supported. These are options to assess in the free demo, not a guarantee that every task is accessible with one device or one hand.

Clicking an object is different from clicking anywhere to walk

Players describe automatic movement toward interaction hotspots and normal WASD movement. Several request free point-and-click walking to arbitrary ground positions. The discussion does not show that feature being added. If clicking empty ground does nothing, test movement with your configured keys instead of assuming the mouse or the game is broken.

Make an input checklist in the demo

  1. Inspect the current key bindings and remap needed actions to controls you can comfortably reach. Eastshade states that keys are remappable; this is not a tested setup for a particular accessibility device.
  2. Try both walking around an obstacle and clicking an object to interact. Being able to reach one hotspot does not prove that every route is mouse-only.
  3. Open and close a menu, handle an item, and complete the garden spell’s target-placement step with your chosen bindings.
  4. Try the music help option if timing or two-handed inputs are difficult. Check the resulting score and whether the remaining actions are comfortable before committing to a longer session.

If a required action remains inaccessible, record it rather than treating one successful interaction as a full accessibility test.

What does music help change?

Eastshade’s early accessibility reply describes score assistance for someone using one side of the inputs. Its later explanation names Song Mastery Help and describes a final-score bonus; later patch notes also make clear that stars are not required just to cast spells. These facts help assess the music task, but do not establish mouse-only movement, automatic targeting or a universal one-handed setup.

Compare controller and handheld inputs separately

If you prefer a controller, use the reported casting sequence and follow the active button prompts. On Steam Deck, Valve’s Playable details still flag some inputs, keyboard invocation and text size. A controller-support tag should not override a specific action you cannot complete with your chosen layout.
